Long Dinh Fruit Research Center (LDFRC) was founded on 26 March 1994 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Then LDFRC was reorganized and upgraded to be the Southern Fruit Research Institute (SOFRI) under the decision No. 1056/1997/QD TTg on December 9 th 1997. SOFRI now joined to Vietnam Academic of Agricultural Science (VAAS) on 1st January 2010, under Decision No. 3530/QĐ-BNN-TCCB, signed and issued on 10th December 2009 by Minister of Ministry of Agricultural and Rural development. It is located at Long Dinh commune. Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province. Visitors can see the main building of SOFRI lying by the roadside of the national highway running toward the Mekong Delta.The place is about 75 km to the West of HoChi Minh city. A SOFRI’s affiliated establishment named South Eastern Fruit Research Center has its home on 436 ha of land located in Baria-Vungtau province.
